Fate is a funny thing. Once upon a time, there was a little rave shack association called the Bang Gang, and it was there that the untouchable techno talents that make up Motorik first spread their wings, ready to fly into and onto the dancefloor, with pupils miles wide. There were a number of little speakeasys that hosted these reprobates, but only one that counts, and it’s here that we find ourselves for the next round of fun mit den technø. Forget the nostalgia and prep up your nostrils: we’re back at CLUB 77 and we’re exciteddddddddddddddddddd. On the turntables of steel and CDJs of, um, techno:

Hoodrat is dead. Infusion is dead (maybe). Long live THE FINGER PRINCE! The inventors of K-funk and long standing elder statesmen of rave, Gruzman and Xavier, take time out from their busy schedules of pub ownership and endless knob twiddling to prep up a 3 HOUR SET of the most mind bending and spirit warping of techno, techyes, horse house and late 70’s prog rave classics to celebrate the launch of their upcoming extended plate release on MOTORIK RECORDS .

Who is GENERIK? Model. Social Media Superstar. A man not afraid to prance on a white horse, riding into a techno sunset. He’s on his latest tour promoting himself, the TOUR OF TECHNO, following on from the legendary (on his twitter) TOUR OF COOL. He’s from Melbourne, where you’ll see him looking like fashhhhiooonnnn whilst booking Superdisco and touring nationwide with Stereosonic, whom he also has something to do with, like booking and stuff. He’s available, has great taste in music and is a handsome boy: ladies, start your engines.

Fresh off a triumphant MBFWA, CSMNT61 have had enough of lugging around Korg MS-20s and guitars whilst soundtracking afterparties and runway shows for Christopher Esber and Fernando Frisoni, and have decided to return to the far less lucrative business of playing techno in sweaty nightclubs. Their new EP “Keep Holding On” has garnered support from Brodinski, Mixhell, Triple J, FBi, and a whole bunch of blogs globally.

Finally, Sydney’s #1 doorman and Motorik joint-chairman of the bored VIVI aka Vi aka VIVIVI is back on opening duties at the nightclub where he learnt to DJ, take acid and get wild times a million at. It’s fate, it is.

It’s FUN. WITH, UM, TECHNO. Heyyyyy. It’s free with a ticket BUT you gotta get there before 12 otherwise we’re charging $5, in order to pay for the damage you creeps do to all the venues we take over. But we love you anyway. Meanwhile, back at the Motorik executive suites, our eccentrically dressed public relations boss has been frantically going through records, trying to get his first (second) VI FIVE in for the blog. After days climbing mountains and waving a divining rod at the sky, listening for cues on high from celestial dancefloors, he returned to our 4th floor offices above the Flinders with slightly greyer hair, vastly frutier clothing, and a list of links to a better way of living. Get down on the carpet, cross those legs, centre your chakras and turn up your laptop speakers, you layabouts, and prepare to get lifted.

It’s transcendental. That’s the only way to describe it. After turning this up to 11 in my car, whilst driving through the M5 tunnel… I SWEAR IT FELT LIKE I WAS ON ECSTASY. Pat from CSMNT61 got a phonecall at the end where I explained to him that it felt like I was on MDMA61 whilst listening to this track, and that he had to get it immediately. Can’t fight the power. Mike Levy is like the sharpest motherfucker in techno right now, and even if the whole Lana Del Rey thing confuses the fuck out of me, this dude’s turned it into the song I’ve listened to the most this week. I’m not even sure why that is, but it just kind of happened, and I can’t not include it in this list.

Made 15 years ago (already!!), and has never stopped sounding fresh and relevant. If we could all make one track half as good as this to contribute to the canon of techno oddities we would be leaving the genre in a very healthy place. To the studio!

We took a look over Light Year’s proverbial shoulder and got the low-down on the tracks that are currently jacking his body. Light Year’s High Five after the untz.

1. FRENCH FRIES - YO VOGUE

I have always had a certain soft spot for that ghetto shit, and this is DEFINITELY that ghetto shit. It feels like a 2012 version of ‘Percolator’ with that pitched vocal just hypnotising you to “Vogue Bitch”

2. BLAWAN & THE ANALOGUE COPS - ILLY

Finally a party where i can play Blawans stuff. For some reason i love certain tracks that don’t do all that much but they just exude a certain character that is undeniable. For me this track does exactly that. It all sounds so raw and delicious totally on that warehouse tip and so fitting for Motorik.

3. JUNIOR BOYS - YOU’LL IMPROVE ME (CARIBOU REMIX)

He has completely tranformed the original into a proto-deep-bizarre-amazing techno epic. One of Caribou’s weirdest remixes but i love it so much that i have done a special ‘Motorik’ edit.

4. GESAFFELSTEIN - CONTROL MOVEMENT

The only bad thing about playing the G-man’s records is they sound so massive that anything you play afterwards just falls flat. Some of his stuff is super dark and heavy but i find this record to be one of his best so far. Powerful and hard hitting without being too overbearing, perfect tune to kick the vibe up a notch or 2.

5. NINA KRAVIZ - GHETTO KRAVIZ

I mean woah! Dope tune and all but the film clip is……just watch.
